Event tracking by industry
If you are checking whether Jitsu fits event tracking for a fintech app, a mobile game or a news site, start with the guide for your industry below. Each guide lists the events that industry tracks, a Jitsu function for the industry-specific work, SQL for the warehouse, and where Jitsu does not fit.
TL;DR
- Jitsu is an open-source event pipeline under the MIT license.
- It collects events from websites, mobile apps and backends, runs functions on them, and sends them to a warehouse and other tools.
- Jitsu Cloud's Free plan includes 200k active events a month.
- A feature-complete self-hosted Jitsu runs on Kubernetes.
Industries
Fintech & financial services
How to build the onboarding and KYC funnel from server-side events, self-host Jitsu on Kubernetes in your own cloud, and send ad conversions to Meta Ads or Google Ads after a function hashes or drops personal data.
Mobile apps & games
iOS and Android apps send events through Segment's open-source libraries, and game clients and game servers send through the HTTP API. Events land in the ClickHouse warehouse included with every Jitsu Cloud workspace.
Media & publishing
Publishers collect reader events through a custom domain on their own subdomain (Business and Enterprise plans), which browser filter rules written for *.jitsu.com hostnames do not match. Subscription funnels are queried in the warehouse, and a function adds article data to events in transit by calling the CMS.
Published customer story
Investing.com, a financial data and news platform, sends 5 billion events a month through Jitsu from its website and its Android and iPhone apps. BigQuery, Google Ads and Mixpanel receive them as server destinations, and functions enrich events in transit by calling external APIs and caching the responses in a key-value store. Where Jitsu does not fit
- Self-hosting a feature-complete Jitsu needs Kubernetes. The Docker Compose setup is deprecated and cannot run functions or connector syncs.
- Identity stitching rewrites earlier anonymous events with the user ID in six warehouses only (ClickHouse, BigQuery, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Snowflake and MySQL), up to 30 days back. On Jitsu Cloud it is part of the Enterprise plan; self-hosted Jitsu has no plan restriction.
- Mobile apps send events through Segment's open-source libraries for iOS, Android and React Native, and game engines send through the HTTP API. Jitsu has no SDK of its own for mobile apps or game engines.
- Jitsu Cloud is hosted in the United States. On Prem and Private Cloud are on the Enterprise plan; contact Jitsu about either.
